CAREW CASTLE & TIDAL MILL 21st/22nd June 2008 |
I have had Carew Castle on my "wish list" for a long time, finally the opportunity
to investigate there arose and it didn`t fail to please! This investigation was with S.W.P.R. Arrived at around 5.20pm, another member had kindly offered to take me so I was very grateful for that, especially as it was pouring with rain!. We had set up base in the Castle`s undercroft, which was where we returned to for breaks, reports and summary, and where we kept our belongings. The event started with a talk by Lesley Smith of "Most Haunted" (TV Programme) who is Patron of S.W.P.R. Then we split into groups and went to various parts of the Castle and to the Tidal Mill which is about 10 minutes walk from the Castle. Lesley took turns working with each group. Johnny and I were in group 3, we started in the hall with a planchette activity which had no response, although we didn`t feel we were the only ones present in the room! Then we moved into the chapel. We all felt rather unwelcome and uncomfortable, and again the planchette activity received no response. The uneasy energy was even stronger in the adjoining rooms, particularly the furthest room from the chapel. Photographs in there show orbs, and in one photo taken in the chapel there is a strange ape like shape, which is very interesting since the Castle is notorious for a Babboon ghost!. In another photo the image has a strange green partition which I have never known on that camera before, in that green area in what looks to me like half of a face... I copied the face in the image and pasted it on to the photo, mirrored it and put the two halves together- which results in a rather convincing whole face!. Then it was our turn to visit the Tidal Mill, Lesley was with us for this activity. She was lovely, very friendly and great fun to be with. The activity there was glass divination, I avoided it for the most part since Johnny and I do this at home, I usually try not to take part so it doesn`t look like I am influencing it, but Lesley asked me to join in briefly anyway. The glass spelled out a few things that had aparently been spelled out with another group earlier. At one time Lesley took one of the group to feel for energy and asked me to video it... an orb floated in front of the camera when they were asking for evidence!. Noises were heard including faint voices, sighs, whistles, footsteps, doors opening and someone coming up the stairs, and Lesley developed a nasty cough for no aparent reason. We went to another room and some of the group felt unwell and had chest pains, tightness and breathing difficulty so we left the room. When we got downstairs a door we had closed behind us earlier, was open- it has a strong catch and can`t just blow open because it has a knob handle that has to be twisted to open the door, it must have been the sound of opening door we heard earlier! Before we left the Mill it sounded like it was pouring with rain again, so Lesley left £3.00 on the counter in the gift shop for a £2.99 novelty rain poncho, which she put on before we left... it wasn`t actually pouring with rain outside, but it was fun walking back to the Castle accompanied by a talking giant Frog!. Next we stayed in the undercroft for EVP. We talked among ourselves whilst the recorder was running. In playback it sounds like someone was saying "Will", "Go", "Stop" and "You`ll never stay the course". We felt someone was warning us they didn`t want us there and that we will not be staying the whole night for some reason. Whilst this was playing back I felt Johnny draw very close to me and heard him say "That`s what you think!". He stayed extremely close to me the rest of the night as if protecting me from threat!. (He is always very close anyway, but in this instance was even more so, bless!) Then we went upstairs where we were meant to be doing dowsing with rods and pendulums, but it was in rooms with no roof and it was too windy to get an accurate reading, although I found a quiet windless corner and channelled my rods to Johnny for a quick chat!. I asked if he was protecting me from something and he said "Yes", I asked if he was enjoying the investigation and he said "Yes", I asked if we will be forced to leave and he said "No", I asked if we were in any danger and he said "No" then seperated the rods by opening them out fully so they touch my shoulders, which he does for a hug. The group wandered around taking photo`s, one had a bit of a shock when shining a torch into a crevice and was confronted by a pair of startled eyes, but it was only a poor pigeon sitting on her nest! There were a few bats flying around which surprisingly enough didn`t actually bother me. Spirits don`t bother me in the least but I was dreading the bats, I knew there is a colony at Carew but I was hoping not to see any!. Johnny told me it`s because I was grounded and protected, which he makes me do before leaving home, he won`t allow me into haunted places until I do this first, so I was not open to fear or hysteria!. I was also hoping not to come across the Babboon, I have a primate phobia and Babboons are my least favourite of all primates as they look so nasty, but again I wasn`t actually bothered about it!. I was standing by a window area when a torch from across the other side of the Castle shone up at me and a voice called out "Hello"... I shone my torch over and it was Lesley Smith waving hello, so I waved and called "Hello" back!. During a break Johnny asked me to "check shoelaces". It was pitch black and I couldn`t see anything, not even my feet. I felt around my laces and they were fine, I mentioned to the young lady I was talking to and her shoe lace was undone, it could have been nasty since we were up and down wet steep and slippery stone steps in the dark! Then it was time for summary of the activities before the end of the investigation at 2.30am. Afterwards we were given a chance to stay on a bit longer and go back to the Mill. We took our things back to the car and waited by the gate for someone with a key to the mill to join us, sadly no-one came so they must have thought we were leaving instead. Never mind, we had a brilliant time- and despite earlier threats, we stayed the course!
