Traditionally there are seven psychic chakra`s in the body.
The Sanskrit word "Chakra" means "Wheel of light".
A chakra is a point on the body where spiritual energies meet, forming essential energy forces which
aid the development and wellbeing of the mind, body and spirit.
Each chakra is represented by a colour of the rainbow spectrum.
The best time to work with your chakra`s is during meditation when you are more able to focus your mind. Try to concentrate on each chakra in turn and visualise it`s associated colour as being a purifying force cleansing the chakra, refreshing the spirit and replenishing energy.
The chakras are numbered, named and coloured as follows...

1.   Root / Base Chakra.         Red
2.   Sacral / Spleen Chakra.   Orange
3.   Solar Plexus Chakra.        Yellow
4.   Heart Chakra.                    Green
5.   Throat Chakra.                   Blue
6.   Third Eye Chakra.             Indigo
7.   Crown Chakra.                  Violet

Each chakra has specific area/s within the physical body where the energy is focussed,
as well as healing and strengthening the spiritual and emotional points.
By working on them you can reinforce their energy and boost their powers to your own benefit.
The chakra energies are focussed as follows...

Root / Base
Associated with the Spinal Column, Adrenals, Legs, Bones and Colon.
Focuses on Physical Health, Trust, Emotional Stability, Good Grounding,
Financial Security, Courage, and basic will to survive.

Sacral / Spleen
Associated with the Womb, Bladder, Testes, Prostate, Genitals and Ovaries.
Focuses on Emotion, Passion, Sexual Desire, Pleasure, and Centre of Feeling.

Solar Plexus
Associated with the Stomach, Liver, Adrenals, Nervous System and Muscles.
Focuses on Self Respect, Vitality, Willpower, Confidence, Strength,
Spontaneity, Self Control, and Sense of Purpose.

Heart
Associated with the Heart, Arms, Circulation, Lungs,
Focuses on Relationships, Balance, Compassion, Self Worthiness,
Self Acceptance, Empathy and Reality.

Throat
Associated with the Throat, Mouth, and Thyroid
Focuses on Wisdom, Truth, Kindness, Self Expression, Creativity,
Communication Skills and the Spoken Word.

Third Eye
Associated with the Nose, Ears, Left Eye and Pituitary Gland.
Focuses on Creativity, Psychic Skills, Clear Thought, Imagination,
Intuition, Accuracy in interpretation, and Divination skills.

Crown
Associated with the Right Eye and Central Nervous System.
Focuses on Wisdom, Conciousness, Knowledge, Cosmic Awareness
and Merging the Human Mind with the Divine Energies.

In order to connect to the spirit world the chakra`s should be "opened" so they can be "tuned in".

Firstly and most importantly is the Protection routine before you begin.
Once you have done this you can then begin to work on your chakra`s.

Here`s a Chakra "opening" routine you could use.

Starting from the bottom and working upwards in turn, visualise an energy travelling upwards from your feet. When it reaches your "Base" chakra, imagine a flower bud breaking open to reveal a beautiful red bloom, which itself radiates a wonderful red light. The base chakra is now open. Move up to the "Sacral" chakra, and do the same thing again, this time an orange flower opens and radiates an orange light. Move up to the "Solar Plexus" chakra, this time it`s a yellow flower and a yellow light. Now move up to the "Heart" chakra. I have a little difficulty imagining a green flower, I don`t know of any truly green ones, so instead I imagine it as a lovely green fern or palm leaf opening up emitting a green light. Now it`s the "Throat" chakra, imagine opening a beautiful blue flower bathed in a blue light. Move up to the "Third eye" chakra. Now a beautiful indigo blue eye opens up, a lovely indigo light surrounds it as it turns around ready to focus. Next move up to the "Crown" chakra. This one has a pretty Violet flower opening in a violet light.
Now all the lights radiate outwards and join together, as they do so the light becomes brilliant white, and one by one the light travels back down into all the chakras, joining them all together
into a spinning vortex of energy... your chakra centres are open and ready to start working.

Once you have finished your work using your chakra`s, you must reverse the process and close them all down. Simply travel from top to bottom, imagine all the flowers etc closing into tight buds and the lights going out as they do so. You should never leave your chakra`s open when not in use, you will leave yourself vulnerable to unwanted spiritual attention and it is a really quick way to
get yourself psycically "burned out!".

A lot of people also make use of Crystals & Minerals when working with chakra`s.
