CANDLE LAMP |
Paint Shop Pro Tutorials by Karen |

I have a pretty brass & glass candle lamp, and thought a digital version would be
nice, so I made one then made this tutorial so you can make one too!. Before we begin you will need my files zip. CLICK HERE to download. Unzip the "kkclampsels" folder into your PSP Selections folder and "kkgbrass" gradient into your gradients folder. |
Ready?... lets begin... Start a new image as fig 1 |

Go selections / load from disk , open "kkclampbase1.sel". Set your foreground to gradient and apply as in fig 2 / 2a |

Using your flood fill tool, left click inside selection to fill with brass effect. Now go effects / 3D effects / inner bevel and apply as in fig 3. |

Add a new layer (layers / new raster layer / ok), go back to selections and load
"kkclampbase2.sel". Repeat flood fill and inner bevel, go layers / arrange / move down then deselect (selections / select none). Add a new layer, load "kkclampbase3.sel". Repeat flood fill and inner bevel, move layer down then deselect. Add a new layer. Load "kkclampstem.sel". repeat flood fill, then go effects / texture effects / blinds and apply as in fig 4. |

Now move the layer down as before and deselect. Add a new layer and load kkclampneck1.sel". Repeat flood fill and inner bevel, move the layer down and deselect. Add a new layer, load "kkclampneck2.sel". Repeat flood fill and inner bevel, move the layer down and deselect. Add a new layer, load "kkclampneck3.sel". Repeat flood fill and inner bevel, move the layer down and deselect. Add a new layer, load "kkclampneck4.sel". Repeat flood fill and inner bevel, move the layer down and deselect. Add a new layer. Load "kkclampcandleholder.sel". Flood fill with solid colour, medium grey, repeat inner bevel then deselect. Add a new layer. Load "kkclampcandle.sel". Flood fill with solid colour, white, repeat inner bevel then deselect. Add a new layer. Load "kkclampwick.sel". Flood fill with solid colour, medium grey, repeat inner bevel then deselect. Add a new layer. Load "kkclamptop.sel". Go layers / properties and make settings as fig 5 and apply. |

Now go layers / arrange / bring to top and flood fill with solid colour #D3A879. Next go effects / 3D effects / inner bevel and apply as in fig 5a |

Deselect then set your paintbrush tool as in fig 6. |

Set your foreground to solid white and add highlights to the glass as in fig 7 |

Set your retouch tool as in fig 8 / 8a and use it to soften the highlights a bit. |

Add a new layer and load "kkclampetching.sel". Go layers / properties and set as in fig 9 |

Flood fill the selection in white the deselect. Use the retouch tool to soften it
a bit. Go layers / merge / merge visible then use the retouch tool to soften all the "joins" in the base, neck and stem. (fig 10) |

Resize to your preference ( the sample below is 40%). Then go effects / sharpen / sharpen more. That`s it... your very own candle lamp. Tube it, use it, enjoy. Why not add a flame on a layer under the glass before merging layers...you could even animate it!. |

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial which was written for PSP7 but should adapt for
other versions. Close window to return to index. If you didn`t come to this page from the tutorials index and want to go there now CLICK HERE |
