GLOBE BASE / ORNAMENT FROM DINGBAT |
Paint Shop Pro Tutorials by Karen |

Dingbat fonts offer a lovely selection of shapes which are ideal to turn into ornamental
images or even globe bases. Here I will show you how I have adapted some dingbats to use in this way. |
Start a new image as in fig 1. |

Now click on the font tool icon, then click on your canvas to open the font tool
pallette. Select a dingbat font ( I am using "Ornamental Decoration 2" for this tutorial) then type in your chosen letter ( I will use lower case "j"). You will need to manually adjust the font size to larger than is available in the pallette. Highlight the size and press the delete key. Type in a new size ( I will use 150). Make the settings as in fig 2. |

Click OK to close the dialogue box, then drag your font to centre into your image, do not deselect. (fig 3) |

Next we will add a lustre effect. Go to effects/texture effects/sculpture, select a metallic or jewelled pattern for best effect. (fig 4) |

Click OK and your font should now be filled with pattern. (fig 5) |

Do not deselect but go to effects/3D effects/inner bevel, make the settings as fig 6 |
Keep the image selected and go to effects/3D effects/chisel and make the settings as fig 7. Click OK. |

Now go to edit/copy/edit/paste as new image. Go back to effects/texture effects/sculpture and repeat the pattern as fig 4/5. Next repeat the effects/3D effects/inner bevel as fig 6 again, this will make your image look more rounded and stand out better. (fig 8) |

Now it`s ready to tube for future use as a globe base or ornametal image. Go to file/export/picture tube. Give it a name and click OK. ( fig 9) |

That`s it... Try different shapes, colours and patterns for various results. Experiment with different bevels and see what you can do... Enjoy! |
I hope you enjoyed this this tutorial which was written for P.S.P V7 but should adapt
for other versions. |

If you like the effect I used to fill the example in this tutorial, I used my own
silvery pattern. Please feel free to right click the sample below and save to your computer. To use, open in psp then minimise it (click the minus sign at the top) it will now show up in your patterns folder when you want to fill your image. |
