DRAPED CURTAINS |
Paint Shop Pro Tutorials by Karen |

A slightly more difficult version of my straight curtains... but nicer! Here`s how I make mine... |
Start a new image as fig 1 |

Go up to effects / texture effects / sculpture, choose a pattern (fig 2) click OK. |

I am using my blue check pattern, if you want it right click the tile below and save
on your hard disk. To use it, open in psp then minimise it (click the minus sign at the top) it will then show up in your patterns pallette when you want to fill your image. |

Go back to effects / texture effects / blinds, set as fig 3, Ok |

Go back to effects / blur / soften then edit / copy. Minimise for later (click on minus symbol at top right) Now go edit / paste as new image then effects / geometric effects / circle. You now need a bit more canvas so go image / canvas size (as fig 4) OK. |

Using the magic wand, click on blank canvas, go selections / invert / selections / modify / contract (fig 5) OK. |

Your circle should now be selected (fig 6) |

Now go edit / copy / edit / paste as new image and close the original, it is no longer needed. Next click the selection tool, right click it and select tool options, set as fig 7 |

Close the dialogue box then drag the pointer across half of the circle from top to bottom (fig 8) |

Go edit / copy then deselect and go edit / paste as new layer / image / rotate (fig
9) click OK (fig 10) |

Next go edit / copy / edit / paste as new image (fig 11) |

You can close the original, it is no longer needed. Reopen the minimised image (click the 2 squares symbol on top left) Use the selection tool keeping the same settings, select a few rows of folds across and top to bottom (fig 12) |

Now go edit / copy / edit / paste as new image close the original and minimise the new image. using the remaining image go edit / copy then start a new image as fig 13. |

Now go edit / paste as new layer 5 times, use the mover tool and arrange the "swags" as fig 14. |

Now go edit / paste as new layer / image / rotate / right 90 degrees OK drag the swag to the right of canvas and send it to the bottom layer if it is on top of existing layers (layers / arrange / sendd to bottom) then repeat the last step but rotate to the left 90 degrees and send to bottom if needed. Arrange the side swags as in fig 15.(Spread the middle swags out across the canvas if needed.) |

Minimise the new image and reopen the first minimised image and go edit / copy. reopen the new image and go edit / paste as new layer. Use the deformation tool to lengthen it a bit if needed ( to reach from swag to bottom of canvas.) Then hold down shift key and use pointer to drag bottom right out a little bit. (fig 16) |

Still using the deformation tool, narrow the sides down a bit if needed, so the top matches the bottom of the swag.(fig 17) |

Next deselect and send the side drape to bottom layer if needed (layers / arrange
/send to bottom)then go edit / copy / edit / paste as new layer / image / mirror
, drag new drape to right of canvas send to bottom if needed and line up to match left side (fig 18) |

Click on mover tool then click top left swag to make it active, go to effects / 3D effects / drop shadow (fig 19) OK. |

Repeat the last step for middle and right swags then for the two side swags then go layers / merge / merge visible. That`s it... your new draped curtains ready to hang! We made a large image which would make a nice web page graphic, you can resize it if required, then save as psp image or tube it for future use. You could use a plain colour instead of pattern fill, but I prefer pattern! just leave out the pattern fill part and use a solid colour from the pallette to flood fill. Why not add bows, tassells or decorations for a more glamorous look! |
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial which was written for PSP V7, but should adapt for
other versions. |
