JIGSAW PUZZLE Make a jigsaw puzzle |
Paint Shop Pro Tutorials by Karen |
This tutorial was created for members of my PSP group, who wanted to know how to make a jigsaw puzzle in version 7 after seeing a version 8 puzzle tutorial. Although the idea came from the version 8 tutorial, this one is my own creation, the instructions for 8 cannot easily be used in 7 and therefore I had to make a new jigsaw from scratch. The mask used is also my own creation. CLICK HERE to download my mask. Unzip into your masks folder. For this tutorial I will be using my own original photo of "Mumbles Pier". If you want to use my photo right click and save to your computer. |

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial which is written for PSP V 7 but should adapt for
other versions |
Ready ?... lets make a jigsaw puzzle... Open the photo you want to use, try not to use one with too much detail as this makes selecting with the magic wand difficult. Go layers / duplicate / ok Now go mask / load from disk / find the mask (kkmjigsaw) / open. Flood fill with black then go mask / invert. Next go mask /delete, say "yes" to the popup if you get one. Now go effects / 3d effects / drop shadow and apply as in fig 1. |
Using the magic wand, click inside a jigsaw piece (one without too much detail or the selection won`t work) Now go selections / modify / expand by 1 pixel, then go edit / cut / selections / select none / edit / paste as new layer. Next go layers / arrange / bring to top and move the piece to desired position on the puzzle. Now go effects / 3D effects / drop shadow and apply as in fig 1 (but change the colour to black) then go effects / 3D effects / inner bevel and apply as in fig 3. |

Now go layers / merge / merge visible then layers / duplicate / ok Flood fill with white then go layers / arrange / send to bottom. Go to layers and click on layer 2 (merged). Click on your magic wand tool, right click, select tool options and set as in fig 2. |

Now go layers / layer 2 (merged), use the magic wand to select another piece, then selections / modify / expand by 1 pixel. Go edit / cut / selections / select none / edit / paste as new layer, then layers / arrange / bring to top. Move the piece to desired position on the puzzle, add drop shadow and bevel as before. Now go image / rotate apply as in fig 4 then go effects / sharpen / sharpen. |
Your image should now look something like this |

Repeat the cut / paste / shadow / bevel stages as many times as you like, then do one more as follows... Go layers / layer 2 (merged) with the magic wand select inside a piece then go selections / modify / expand by 1 as before. Now go edit / cut / selections / select none / edit / paste as new layer then go layers / arrange / bring to top. Repeat the shadow and bevel as before then go image / rotate and apply as fig 6 |

Move the piece close to it`s "empty space" then go effects / sharpen / sharpen. You should now have something like this |

When you are satisfied with the piece positions and number of pieces, go layers /
merge / merge visible. That`s it... your own jigsaw puzzle! |
