MASKS FROM TUBES
Paint Shop Pro Tutorials by Karen
You may have some tubes which would make interesting mask shapes too.
I have made many masks for my own use this way.
Make sure you first either use your own tubes from your own images, have permission to alter the tube/s,
or only make the masks for your own personal use. Using this tutorial constitutes modifying tubes
and I will not be responsible for any copyright issues arising from use of this tutorial.
Having said this, masks are an easy fun way to get some very interesting effects on your images.
Try making some masks and experimenting... here`s how I make mine from tubes...
Open a new image with your settings as in fig 1.
Go to your tubes tool, right click the icon and select tool options.
Navigate to the tube you want to use. (fig 2)
Close the dialogue box, then click inside the canvas to add your tube.(fig 3)
Go to colours / adjust / threshold. Make the settings as in fig 4. Click Ok.
Click on the magic wand icon then click on canvas outside the image.
Go to selections / invert, to select the image only.
Go to effects / 3D effects / cutout, settings as fig 5.
You should now have a black shape on white background.
Right click oncanvas to deselect. (fig 6)
Next go to masks / new / from image. Make the settings as in fig 7. click ok
You should now have a black shape on transparent background. ( fig 8)
Go to masks / save to disk, name your mask then save in your P.S.P Masks folder.
( C / program files / jasc software / paint shop pro /masks /save.)
You have now made and installed a new mask... have fun!
Note:  The tube used for this tutorial, and the screen captures used, are for example only.
You will get much better results if your tube fills the image better.
Also, when using masks, if the transparent part is the reverse of what you want,
simply go to masks / invert before finalising your image.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial which was written for P.S.P V 7, but should adapt for other versions.
